Good evening,

It is a great honor and pleasure to welcome you all to celebrate the 99th anniversary of the proclamation of Republic of Türkiye.

I am so excited today, because this is my first National Day Reception after my post to Taipei two years ago.


On this day, we recall the heroic struggle of Turkish nation, which achieved victory in the War of Independence, under the leadership of our founding father, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

On this important occasion, please allow me to commemorate those martyrs, who lost their lives for our country.

The proclamation of our Republic constitutes a historic cornerstone in the journey of the Turkish nation and the birth of a modern, democratic and pluralistic Türkiye.

Now Türkiye is the 11th economy in the world, the fastest growing economy in the EU, supported by a dynamic private sector and a young population.

Türkiye is an active member of G20, NATO, OECD and most of other international and regional organizations.

It is a nation stands together against the terrorist groups, also a leading role in humanitarian aid and in conflict resolution and mediation.

The motto of our foreign policy has been set by our founding father: ‘‘Peace at home, peace in the world.’’

This principle hasn’t changed since then as Türkiye implements policies to reflect the enterprising spirit and humanitarian values of our nation and continues to be a proud member of the international community.

The relations between Türkiye and Taiwan have developed in multi-dimensional areas following the direct flight by Turkish Airlines and the mutual free visa programs.

Even the pandemic had made huge impacts on this, now it has 6 flights per week between Istanbul-Taipei and are always fully booked.

And thanks to the technology, the meetings and exchanges haven’t been interrupted.

We also had some good news during this period. For example, in April, YC Inox successfully produced the first stainless steel pipe in their plant in Türkiye, and decided to increase their capital to the plant of around 1.4 billion NTD.

The Taiwanese motorcycle giant- KYMCO will partner with Turkish company Doğan Trend Otomotive to begin producing motorcycles for the markets not only in Türkiye also Europe.

You are able to find more and more Turkish goods here in Taiwan. Meanwhile, we also continued to participate in cultural events to introduce not only our country also our high-quality products to Taiwanese people.

We have overcame the challenges posed by the pandemic, after waiting two years, now Taiwanese students were finally able to fly to Türkiye for exchange programs, so do Turkish students.

Currently, around 130 Turkish students are studying in Taiwan. Likewise, there is an increasing number of Taiwanese students in Türkiye as well within the scope of the scholarship offered by our government.

I believe the interactions between us will become tighter in the future. Given by the advantages of Türkiye and Taiwan respectively, there are lots of opportunities to collaborate on the basis of mutual benefits.

Taiwan’s border finally opened. I believe all of you are so much eager to fly abroad, I welcome all of you to visit my country.

Next year as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Republic, I hope the number of Taiwanese visitors to Türkiye can reach 100,000!

Türkiye Cumhuriyetinin kuruluşunun 99. Yıldönümünü kutlamak üzere bir araya gelmiş bulunmaktayız.

Cumhuriyetimiz, Atatürk ve silah arkadaşlarının önderliğinde, milletimizin azim ve kararlılığıyla kuruluş büyük bir eserdir.

Bu anlamlı günde, bu ebedi eserin yaratılması ve korunması uğruna canlarını feda etmiş tüm şehitlerimizi ve gazilerimizi bir kez daha saygı, minnet ve rahmetle anıyoruz.

Bu duygu ve düşüncelerle hepinizin Cumhuriyet Bayramını en içten duygularımla kutluyorum.
